The most basic way of cooperation is minimising your ecological footprint by, for example, not littering. But if you want to give back to the community by helping Malapascua in an active way, there are organisations on the island who organise different activities.
Aside from making a difference in Malapascua’s future this is a great way to meet all kind of people who participate in this activities; locals, foreigners living on the island, and fellow solidary travellers.
“People and the Sea is a Filipino registered charity. Our organization strives to be community-driven and focuses on marine conservation. We are based on Malapascua Island, Cebu, Philippines and founded in 2015 as a response to the need to do something for the ocean, post typhoon Yolanda. Supporting the local community of Malapascua to become more ecologically and economically resilient, has always been at the forefront of our vision and goals.
PepSea aims to SUPPORT local communities, businesses and other stakeholders in identifying innovative ways to manage their marine environment and have a POSITIVE ECONOMIC IMPACT. We make this happen through an integrated, collaborative approach to achieve meaningful community development and sustainable marine resources management. Our activities are anchored into 4 core tenets: Science, Education, Alternative Enterprise, and Solid Waste Management for the Conservation of Malapascua (SEAS4C Malapascua).
Ways you can help: Help with a cleanup activity we run weekly, donate, join one of our Volunteer Expeditions, be a responsible traveler, take 3 for the sea and always refuse, reduce, and reuse anything in relation to consumerism!”
“Dive4Help is the result of the fusion of lifestyle, passions and attitudes of a group of professionals recreational diving, through which we want to offer an alternative to the current recreational diving.
From Dive4HELP we offer solidary, sustainable, responsible and professional recreational diving. We want to give the opportunity to all those who share our passion, to participate actively or passively in sustainable development and as they discover the wonderful underwater world .
We contribute to part of the salary received by the diving courses conducted by involving collaborators and our students. With the funds raised through the courses and other contributions, we subsidize the projects Go Green Malapascua.“
